Before using this product
Any professional concrete worker will agree that properly sealing a driveway will drastically increase longevity of the concretes strength and appearance.
The first thing we’ll need to do is clean the driveway. Sweep away all the dirt and debris and wash it to remove any oil, paint or other chemicals that have embedded in the concrete. Afterwards, mop the surface with a floor cleaner and then rinse it thoroughly with water to remove all stains.
Secondly, fill in all the irregular cracks and openings in the surface with the appropriate filler.
Applying this product
This 128 fluid oz. jug comes in an E-Z Flow no-stir formula that is ready to use immediately upon opening. While stirring the product slightly before application will not cause problems, this no-stir formula ensures no separation, eliminating the complications that arise from separation in other products. This sealer is applied simply with a trowel and takes 4 hours to dry. While it dries in 4 hours it should not be driven on for 24 to 48 hours. You’ll need to remind yourself and others to not park on the driveway while it’s drying. Yellow tape or cones placed before the entrance to the driveway are easy and highly effective in ensuring the time and money spent on sealing don’t go to waste.
When applied to a freshly poured driveway consider the following: as fresh concrete dries, bleed water will appear on the surface. Once this has dried and the concrete will support the weight of a person withough marring, the Sakrete Masonry Sealer may be applied.
Apply it evenly across the surface of the concrete while ensuring that no puddling occurs. Puddling will result in an inconsistent finish and draw from the driveway’s aesthetic appeal. It’s not necessary to strip or powerwash the sealer once it has dried.
To prevent lap lines, sealer marks, and other inconsistencies that could both draw from the durability and aesthetic appeal of the finished product we recommend filling out a lead form to find a driveway repair contractor to apply the sealer professionally and ensure smooth and thorough results. This will cost more but will be reduce repair costs in the long run that could result from improper application.
